1. Denise (SNG)
Denise asked if there were any public safety issues the board would like her to address to Landy Black, Captain of the East Precinct. The board brought up the following issues:
· Bike Patrol has not been seen much for awhile along Broadway.
· The foot patrol is almost non-existent.
Denise said she believed that SPD is dealing with issues of manpower. She will speak to the Captain and report back to the board at the next meeting.
2. Chamber Update
Executive hiring committee has outlined the scope of work for the Executive Director to be hired by the new board. The chamber is now taking nominations for the new board.
The Chamber is setting up meeting with the colleges on the hill to do outreach to students and faculty. They will ask for student interns and also want to address the safety issues for evening classes.
The fee structure template is in place but will not go into effect until the new board approves.
The CHID brought in consultants to help them reevaluate their process for getting building owners to join.
3. FARMERS MARKET/GRANT
Molly will coordinate with Mary for the opening event on May 13th.
Paul Dwoskin gave a brief outline of the project “Brush Up Broadway. The BIA will send letters to all the members announcing the event. Mary will email Ben to have him start working on posters, flyers and the stickers for the equipment. Mary will also email the committee to pick a time for a meeting to start a timeline for the event and also assign tasks.
Ken and Spencer will co-chair the event.
4. CLEANSCAPES
Keegan Reinke reported much better cleaning of Broadway since they instituted the weekly walk through. Paul asked that they concentrate a little more on the base of the garbage cans.
Chris Martin said the last two street corners left to pressure wash will be done this month and they will also wash around the garbage cans.
The alley behind Harrison and Broadway is a dumping ground for old furniture and other large household items. Chris suggested a link on the BIA website for store owners to call the city for pick up when they see a problem. Mary will get all the non-emergency numbers for city services to be posted on the website.
Chris said the City is getting bids for garbage pick up. The city is also establishing dumpster free zones in some parts of the city. They hope to have these zones established by 2009. The BIA will write a letter to the Mayor and to Chuck Clark asking they consider Broadway a dumpster free zone.
Cleanscapes will again contract for watering the flower baskets along Broadway.
5. PROMOTIONS
A letter will be sent to all the BIA members to let them know that they can post specials on the BIA website. The board will post stipulations for form and content on the site. Paul as webmaster will give final approval for postings and Mary will send the email blast to the members.
6. BANNERS
The board is changing the way banners are hung on Broadway. Each organization will have a two block area to hang banners on both sides of the street. Mary will inform the organizations of where and when they can hang banners.
NEW BUSINESS
Constituents of a new hip-hop club ‘Club Lagoon’ are causing problems after the club closes on Friday and Saturday nights. Spencer says his staff and other patrons of the Broadway Grill have had anti-gay slurs yelled at them. The Broadway Grill now closes before 2am so the staff and others can leave the area before the Club closes.
The BIA Board will write a letter to Landy Black, Captain of the East Precinct to ask if there can be a police presence on those nights. The board feels it’s only a matter of time before someone is hurt.
The next meeting of the BIA Board will be on Thursday, March 15th, 2007
Meeting adjourned 8:55 am
