1. SPD

Officer Ebinger introduced herself as the new liaison officer for the East Precinct.  She was a bicycle patrol on Capitol Hill so she knows the area.  She asked that all businesses call her with any problems they would like her to pay particular attention to.

Molly asked if the police could walk thru the market every Sunday so the vendors know there is a police presence.

Spencer Fairbanks told the officer now that the weather was getting warmer the drug dealing is getting worse and could the please step up patrols.  Officer Ebinger suggested not only should businesses sign the no trespassing forms, but they need to put up no trespassing signs in the businesses as well.  Spencer, Paul and Denise will pick a date for a Broadway walk and make sure all the businesses have a form on file.  Denise will offer no trespassing signs to businesses for purchase.  Officer Ebinger will see if she can have the new precinct captain join them.

2. FARMER’S MARKET

Molly and Chris brought flyers for shopping bag stuffers, posters for businesses to begin advertising the Farmer’s Market opening.  Michael encourages everyone to please use the posters and handouts as the BIA wants the market to succeed and keep getting bigger.

The BIA informed them that Sally Clark will come to the opening to ring the opening bell and give a short welcome speech.

The BIA also will be “Clean Sweeping Broadway”, Paul asked Chris to have a truck at the market to haul away any trash swept up by the event.

3. CAPITOL HILL REDESIGN

Phil Beck introduced himself and the newest board member of the Redesign board.  He wanted to make the BIA aware of the developments being reviewed for Broadway and surrounding area.  Phil will send meeting dates to Mary to send out to all the BIA ratepayers. The guidelines for the city and more specifically for Capitol Hill can be found on the city website.

Mary will find the url and it will be posted on the BIA website.

4. CLEANSCAPES

Chris again reminded everyone that they can join the Cleanscapes crew to walk Broadway every Wednesday morning at 9am.

Chris said the city has cut funding for the supplemental cleaning.  The BIA pays for about 6 hours of cleaning a week.  The BIA needs to tell Chris the priorities or areas of concern.

He asked all businesses to encourage all businesses no already on the dumpster free program to please sign up.  The company makes three pickups a day for all the trash bags.

5. CLEAN SWEEP

Paul reported that all the postcards, posters and handouts have been designed and are ready to print.  As soon as the postcards arrived, Paul and Michael will walk Broadway and hand out cards to all the business for stuffers and distribute posters.

Brooms will be ordered from Costco.  He asked for volunteers to help put stickers on the brooms and dustpans.  Once all the stickers are in place the brooms will be distributed to the stores.

Deborah Knopp from Noah’s Bagels offered to house the brooms for us.

6. Chamber Up Date

Michael reported the Chamber board is still organizing.  They have not hired a permanent ED.  Once the ED is hired and the city start up money is discontinued, the BIA would like to see one full year of fiscal solidity before it will consider giving the Chamber funds to manage the BIA.

7. MAY RATEPAYER MEETING

The time and place for the May ratepayer meeting was decided.  Ryan Howard of Club Lagoon has offered to host a meet and greet.  Mary will send out letter to all the ratepayers announcing the meeting.

8. PRIDE

Shannon Thomas announced the LGBT Center is helping to plan a Pride event on the hill on Saturday, June 23rd.  So far they are only organizing a march, there will be no floats.  The music and events start at noon in the park.  There will be food and drinks this year.  They have 10 to 12 vendors and will also have booths focusing mostly on the area artists.  In the evening they are showing the movie “Hairspray”.  Shannon will send out a new press release soon.  She asked anyone that’s interested to come to the committee meetings held every Saturday at 2pm.
