Paul Dwoskin, BIA Chair, called the meeting to order at 8:05 am

1. Farmer’s Market
Molly reported that they were pleased with the numbers for a first year market. She stated they are trying to find a good bakery for next year and to reduce the number of flower vendors.

Molly thought produce would have sold better if the public was more educated on “how to cook” with some items. She will try to have some farmers do more tasting with their produce.

BIA will let Molly know when and if to close for Pride week-end.

2. CleanScapes
Gaby reported CleanScapes has split the Pike/Pine corridor supplemental cleaning into 4 days. They have cleaned almost all the poles of posters. Broadway has the supplemental cleaning done on Fridays. Some Board members did notice that the side streets were looking better.

Power washing of Broadway should be done in February for Broadway only.

3. SNG Meth Education Breakfast
Denise asked that the Board encourage more business owners to attend the education breakfast about the meth epidemic in Seattle. It is especially important for business that sell the product used to make the drug.

4. Gay Pride
Shannon Thomas reported to the Board that the Seattle LGBT Center is working on an event for Capitol Hill during Pride week-end. She will keep the BIA informed of the progress of the event as it develops. The Center is going to sponsor a community forum as soon as possible. The BIA Board members said they would help pass out flyers to the businesses along Broadway.

5. New BIA Website
Paul asked for a volunteer to help design the new BIA website. Eliza Johnson said she would be happy to help. Paul and Eliza will meet with NPower to finish the new site.

6. Money for Broadway Improvement.
Paul Dwoskin, Michael Wells, Greg Serum and Mary Klein met with Nancy Yamamoto the last week of December. Nancy had nothing to report as far as on going projects. She stated OED will be holding a “charrette”. However, she did not have a date when it would be held. She will let the BIA Advisory Board know when the date has been set.

The Advisory Board did have a chance to talk to the Mayor on his annual Capitol Hill walk on January 14th. He asked one of his staff to find out why progress hasn’t been made on the improvement project. Paul will call the Mayor’s office to see if they have any answers.

7. Other Business

It was reported at the Stewardship Council meeting that the North Link of Sound Rail will not be ready for 10 years.

BIA is working with the U District Chamber to have flower baskets for this summer.

All decorations that were once stored at Marshall Walton Design have now been move to a storage facility in Kent.

The Board will review the Banner Policy for the coming year.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 am.
