Paul Dwoskin, BIA President, called the meeting to order at 8:05 am
1. CLEANSCAPES
Chris was asked to concentrate more on side streets and poster removal. Chris said the pressure washing of Broadway will happen after Thanksgiving. At Chris’s suggestion the BIA will write a letter to the Chief of Police, Gil Kerlikowske and ask he remind his patrols that using wall paper paste to put up posters is against the law.
The BIA will also get a bid from Long’s Painting to repaint the light poles on Broadway with a paint that is resistant to the paste and makes posters easier to remove.
Chris also asked that the BIA call SDOT and ask why Broadway is no longer being swept twice a week.
2. Seattle Human Rights Film Festival
Tom Conlin of the Seattle HR Film Festival, which will be held February 15-19th at the NW Film Forum, stated the festival was in need of sponsors. The sponsorships cost from $100-$2000. Paul suggested he go to the BIA website where he will find contact information for businesses on Broadway, and call the businesses to solicit sponsorships.
3. Gay Pride Banners
Paul would like the BIA to put up banners for Pride Month. Paul will ask Ben to design the banners and Mary will get bids for making and hanging of the banners.
4. Safeway Property
Jean Muir called Paul to ask for ideas for the Safeway property use over the holidays. Paul asked if they would like to contribute money for more street decorations and also suggested building use. Others at the meeting suggested a Christmas tree lot, a skating rink or gift wrapping area to benefit a non-profit.
5. Farmer’s Market
Molly stated the banners would come down on Monday. This is the last week-end for the market. They will be back next year but shorten the season from May to October. Next year they will start with 35 vendors and grow out from there. The city is taking down the old signs for the defunct market and Molly is in charge of putting signs around the area pointing to the new market area. Molly also stated she thought the opening of Cal Anderson park, was helping to bring families into the market.
6. Grants
The BIA did receive two grants, one for the winter decorations and one from Weed & Seed to clean up the pocket park. Neither check has been received as of this date. The BIA is working with Elaine of PSKS to hire kids to do the necessary clean up.
No BIA Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for December.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 am.
